Day 3 - Krakow and more pleasant surprises
We left our hotel in Frankfurt this morning at 6:45 and headed to the airport. No need to check-in since we had boarding passes. About 5 min after we arrived, we were sitting at gate A2 waiting for our flight to Krakow. Boarding was pretty painless as well - a very short bus ride from the terminal to the plane, a Boeing 757-500. Turned out to be about the smoothest flight I've been on - zero turbulence, and a smooth landing at 10:30 in Krakow. Our bags made it, and after collecting them, it was off to the apartments.
This is where the biggest surprise of the day came in - These things are INCREDIBLE. They are each 2 bedroom apartments, newly furnished, absolutely wonderful in every way, and they have A WASHING MACHINE!!! NO HANDWASHING!!
We came in for a bit, stretched our legs, and went off in search of food. We are in the Kazimierz District in Krakow, which is the Jewish quarter. Found a very nice restaurant serving traditional Jewish food, which made 7 people very happy. Poland is great - a meal for 7 (a huge meal in a nice restaurant of perfectly prepared food mind you) cost the equivalent of $125 USD. This also marked the first real money we spent on this trip. Cool huh?
After that we went for a walkabout to the Church of Corpus Christi in the Kazimierz district, then wandered by the river finally ending up at Wawel Castle.
Last trip we had a student named Tam who went with us, so in her honor (well, more that we really like it and it was only about 55 degrees outside today) we had Tea Time in our apartment when we got back. Introduced folks to Black Currant and Vishna (sour cherry) juices. New addicts created...lol
